CAMDEN, NJ– Ahead of Labor Day weekend and precisely six months considering that New Jersey reported its very first coronavirus case, Camden County reported its 566th death linked to the respiratory disease.
A female in her 30s from Camden City (75 total deaths) and a male in his 70s from Gloucester Township (59 overall) were the most recent reported deaths as of Friday.
“With the pandemic extending more than 6 months, this is not the first vacation weekend we have experienced under this brand-new typical,” stated Freeholder Director Lou Cappelli. “While all of us want to be with our friends and families, please commemorate properly and do your part to stop the spread of COVID-19 this Labor Day. Prevent large parties, wear a mask when in public, and constantly preserve social distancing.”
The county saw a spike of cases this afternoon with 49 new patients, higher than the current average of 30 per day. Since today, the health department has found out of 9,918 cases.
Gov. Phil Murphy announced 478 new cases statewide, in addition to 7 additional deaths– a total of 193,422 cases and 15,978 deaths (1,83 still considered probable).
Since this morning, indoor dining resumed at 25% capacity throughout the state. Theater and indoor performance locations were also able to resume with health protocols like face masks and social distancing– with some services administering temperature level checks prior to entry.
“Six months ago today– although it appears like 60 years back– we received confirmation of our first case of coronavirus in New Jersey,” Murphy said during his press rundown in the George Washington Ballroom in Trenton this afternoon. “We've experienced a lot together over these past 6 months. And we still have a long road to take a trip.”
The Garden State's rate of transmission is 1.03. Among the brand-new deaths announced, three occurred Sept. 2, one on Aug. 29, and the other 4 in June.
