CAMDEN, NJ– A Lawnside woman in her 80s was one of 8 coronavirus deaths announced by the Camden County health department Monday.
A Camden guy in his 60s likewise became the town's 70th casualty connected to the respiratory illness.
“Our ideas and prayers are with the families and friends of these latest victims,” stated Freeholder Director Lou Cappelli this afternoon. “Every life lost to this virus is a catastrophe, and we are wishing a fast and complete recovery to each of our citizens who recently checked favorable for COVID-19.”
The totals were upgraded over the weekend after an additional 103 positive cases were validated: 8,964 total cases and 546 deaths. Trace investigations are presently underway for the new cases. On Saturday, Cappelli stated on Twitter that 90% of known COVID-19 patients in Camden County contracted the infection from someone in their house.
Previously in the day, Gov. Phil Murphy revealed he would continue to halt the loosening of coronavirus limitations since New Jersey's rate of transmission (Rt) has been climbing up.
The increase in Rt [is], “signaling that this virus is once again starting to make its method through New Jersey communities at a harmful rate,” Cappelli stated. “We have to do whatever in our power to stop coronavirus from restoring a grip in our community.”
