Chiropractors seeing more overuse injuries – Fox17

KENTWOOD, Mich.– With many people working out at home, one regional chiropractic practitioner stated he is seeing more overuse injuries lately.

Overuse injuries take place when our muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons go through repetitive tension.

Those injuries are appearing in Doctor Reid Meador's office, Chiropractic Unlimited, in the kind of pain in the back, along with leg and wrist sprains.

He said one reason why is that individuals aren't making the effort to heat up, stretch or hydrate in your home before an exercise like they would when they're in a gym or a fitness class. And, that can cause problems gradually.

“I think one of the greatest things right now is people are just finding videos online and, maybe they find one they like, suddenly they're doing that four or five times a week,” explained Dr. Meador.

“It's kind of the very same movements over and over which, once again, goes back to that overuse injury portion of it. So I ‘d state find 3 or four various exercises that are working various parts of the body, and try to do those so that those other parts of the body get that rest and healing that they require.”

That discomfort can even appear as lots of people are working from house right now.

Medical professional Meador said it's vital to have a proper work area that allows individuals to stay up straight and keep the shoulders back to prevent stress on the hip, neck and back.
