Neighbors said the man who lived there utilized a wheelchair from time to time; they immediately feared for his security when they saw smoke coming from the front of the house.
“It was frightening since it was a lot of smoke and the older gentleman who lives there, essentially he's in a wheelchair, and prior to the fire department and everyone came, my spouse and other neighbors were trying to kick the door down,” stated neighbor Zenobia Jackson.Jackson said she called 911 for assistance.”As quickly as we kicked the door open,
a lot smoke came out, “Jackson said. Firemens said they discovered the man on the floor in the kitchen quickly after putting out the flames.The homes next door suffered smoke damage.Action News consulted with Michelle Brown whose mother-in-law survives on the block.
“It's unfortunate that the person who was in there didn't make it. I thank God that my mother-in-law
was just great,”Michelle Brown said.”A little bit of smoke, we can get through smoke, however we would not had actually had the ability to make it through her house burning down.” Investigators said the fire marshal is checking out the cause as neighbors and family mourn the male's death. “I just hope that everyone overcomes this the best they can and gets the help that's needed, “Jackson stated.
